The S&P 500 index is down 18.1% through May 20. And with futures contracts on the federal funds rate pricing in an 88% chance of a 50-basis-point hike in June and inflation figures hitting 8.3% year over year in April, the markets are expected to remain highly volatile.

Investors looking to pivot their equity holdings to a more defensive allocation during these turbulent conditions can consider an allocation to low-beta dividend stocks. Beta is a measure of the volatility of a stock compared to the market. Stocks with a beta of less than 1 are considered less risky and have shown a lower correlation with the market. Here's are seven low-volatility dividend stocks stocks to buy with yields above 3%:

Verizon Communications Inc. (ticker: VZ). The U.S. telecommunications space is a highly regulated industry dominated by a few select mega-cap companies. These companies have strong economic moats and widespread customer bases, with highly diversified product and service lines. This translates into strong cash flows and earnings, which are generally distributed back to shareholders in the form of dividends. As one of the largest players, Verizon exemplifies these traits well.
Dividend yield: 5.2%
Beta: 0.41

AT&T Inc. (T). Verizon's main competitor, AT&T has a long and storied history. The company was founded in 1876 by none other than the inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell. AT&T has grown to become a multinational telecommunications juggernaut. Recently, AT&T divested WarnerMedia, its entertainment division, via a merger with cable TV company Discovery, forming Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. (WBD). In the first quarter, AT&T reported strong year-over-year customer growth, adding more than 691,000 postpaid phone customers.
Dividend yield: 5.4%
Beta: 0.74

Spotlight on Mid-Cap Stocks

New York: Williams-Sonoma Manhattan, New York. Williams-Sonoma is an American home furnishings and kitchenware store chain with 600 retail stores.

7 best mid-cap stocks to buy now. Large-cap, blue-chip stocks are the place to go for predictable, stable earnings and modest, long-term growth. Most Dow Jones Industrial Average components fit that description perfectly. A handful of small-cap stocks generate tremendous returns for investors, but small-cap stocks are also extremely risky and volatile. Mid-cap stocks with market capitalizations of between $2 billion and $10 billion can be the perfect solution for investors looking for significant potential upside without losing sleep at night. Here are seven of the best mid-cap stocks to buy in 2022.

The complete Berkshire Hathaway portfolio. Four times a year, holding companies of a certain size are required to divulge their positions in equities. That's a great thing for followers of Warren Buffett, widely considered the greatest long-term investor of all time. His company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.A, BRK.B), which he still helms at age 91, owns a sprawling equities portfolio that directly reflects what stocks Buffett likes. Here are all 53 holdings in the company's $300 billion portfolio as of the latest filing.

Portrait happy young woman exults pumping fists ecstatic celebrates success under a money rain falling down dollar bills banknotes isolated on gray wall background with copy space

Stocks did something mystifying Monday: they advanced. All three major stock market indexes rallied, each gaining more than 1.5%, as equities try to recover some of the ground lost during a brutal seven-week losing streak that briefly plunged the S&P 500 into bear market territory.

The S&P 500 rose 72.39 points, or 1.9%, to finish at 3,973.75.

Cloud stock mooning. VMware Inc. (VMW) soared 24.8% on Monday following reports that the cloud computing company, which was spun off from Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL) last November, was in advanced talks to be acquired by semiconductor giant Broadcom Inc. (AVGO).

There was no price mentioned in the early reporting on the potential acquisition, but it's said to be a cash-and-stock deal.

Didi to delist. My, how the mighty have fallen. Shareholders in Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Global Inc. (DIDI) voted to delist from the New York Stock Exchange just 11 months after going public on the iconic American exchange.

Almost as soon as Didi listed on the NYSE, problems began for the company, as it seemed to openly flout the Chinese government's wish for it to hold back on the listing. Shares are down about 90% from their closing price on the first day of trading about 11 months ago.

Didi is an unfortunate example of China's regulatory crackdown on its tech giants, which it has sought to rein in and have more regulatory input over.

Zooming on earnings. Zoom Video Communications Inc. (ZM) stock jumped in after-hours trading Monday, advancing as much as 16% after topping revenue expectations and blowing away profit expectations.

Importantly, the company's forecast for its current quarter also impressed Wall Street. Although Zoom was reporting revenue growth of nearly 200% at times just last year, it expects 9.2% revenue growth in the second quarter this year – and that's good enough for the market. Analysts had been predicting just 8.7% growth for the second quarter; second-quarter profit expectations also topped consensus views.
