Rio Gallegos in Argentina

Rio Gallegos is a city in southern Argentina, which is administrative center of the province of Santa Cruz in Patagonia region. The city is located at the mouth of the river Gallegos. Rio Gallegos is not so well known among the tourists and travelers, because it is far away from the tropical climate of South America located on 51 degrees south latitude. The city Rio Gallegos has a population of 80 thousands citizens mostly engaged in industry, fishing and maritime transport.

The city economy largely depends on sheep and meat processing industry,

as the region is one of the largest exporters of such products. The port is essential for the maritime transport of the city. In recent years there was a significant growth in the oil and gas industry in the region, which as well as trade and production are an engine of economic growth of Rio Gallegos. The tourism also plays an important role, especially due to the proximity of National Park Los Glaciares. The city has wide beaches, really high mountains and rude forests, interesting for eco tourism and walks

Except the beautiful nature around Rio Gallegos the city offers traditional South American architecture and lifestyle. Also there are a lot of sights, which should be seen into the city. Definitely should not miss the Museo Provincial Padre Jesús Molina, Plaza San Martín, Funda Cruz and Museo de los Pioneros. The city is interesting and will meet you with the life in South America, quite different from the tropical parts, but keeping the traditions and atmosphere.
