The American state of Alabama is located in the south-eastern area of the country. It’s surrounded by other states, but also borders the Gulf of Mexico to the south. Size-wise, it’s the 30th largest state in the U.S. and 23rd in population with close to five million people. The city of Montgomery is its capital; however Birmingham is the largest by population and Huntsville by size. The city of Mobile is also popular and is the state’s oldest centre. It was the 22nd state admitted to the Union, which took place in 1819.

People have been living in the area for thousands of years and the French were the first to settle it in 1702. In fact, the area has belonged to the French, British, and Spanish at one time or another up until 1814.

Outdoor activities are popular in Alabama travel as the weather’s pretty good with an average yearly temperature of 64 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s warmer in the south, down by the Gulf of Mexico, and cooler in the northeast, in the Appalachian Mountains. The summers are hot and the winters are generally mild, so just remember to dress accordingly.

Alabama is pretty easy as there are five major highways that cross it. If you’d rather fly, the major airports are Birmingham-Shuttlesworth, Huntsville, Dothan Regional, Mobile Regional, Montgomery Regional, Muscle Shoals – Northwest
Alabama Regional, Tuscaloosa Regional, and Pryor Field Regional. You can also reach the cities of Anniston, Tuscaloosa, and Birmingham by train. Another option is by boat, as there are quite a few ports in Alabama travel , due to the Gulf and its extensive waterway system.
Alabama is made up of 67 counties and there’s quite a bit of political history in most of them. USS Alabama (BB-60) is a retired battleship. She was the fourth and final member of the South Dakota class of fast battleships built for the United States Navy in the 1930s.
The first American battleships designed after the Washington treaty system began to break down in the mid-1930s, they took advantage of an escalator clause that allowed increasing the main battery to 16-inch guns, but Congressional refusal to authorize larger battleships kept their displacement close to the Washington limit of 35,000 long tons. A requirement to be armored against the same caliber of guns as they carried, combined with the displacement restriction, resulted in cramped ships.
Overcrowding was exacerbated by wartime modifications that considerably strengthened their anti-aircraft batteries and significantly increased their crews. After entering service, Alabama was briefly deployed to strengthen the British Home Fleet, tasked with protecting convoys to the Soviet Union. In 1943, she was transferred to the Pacific for operations against Japan; the first of these was the Gilbert and Marshall Islands campaign that began in November that year.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama is a museum operated by the government of Alabama, showcasing rockets, achievements, and artifacts of the U.S. space program. Sometimes billed as "Earth's largest space museum", astronaut Owen Garriott described the place as, "a great way to learn about space in a town that has embraced the space program from the very beginning."
The center opened in 1970, just after the Apollo 12 Moon landing, the second crewed mission to the lunar surface. It showcases Apollo Program hardware and also houses interactive science exhibits, Space Shuttle exhibits, and Army rocketry and aircraft. With more than 1,500 permanent rocketry and space exploration artifacts, as well as many rotating rocketry and space-related exhibits, the center occupies land carved out of Redstone Arsenal adjacent to Huntsville Botanical Garden at exit 15 on Interstate 565.
The center offers bus tours of nearby NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Two camp programs offer visitors the opportunity to stay on the grounds to learn more about spaceflight and aviation. U.S.
