If you have booked a flight from Hong Kong to Bali, there are a few practical things that you will want to know when planning your holiday. Will you be able to find internet access when you are in Bali? How will you get around? Read on for some helpful information.

Where is Bali?

Bali is an island in Indonesia and is located in a tropical monsoon climate, with lovely temperatures in the day and a rainy season in October and March. It is located near to the equator, so this means that the weather in Bali will be hot all year round and that you will definitely want to bring your sunscreen!

Local Transportation Tips

Because Bali is such a small island, it is not difficult to get around it – especially if you have a good map of Bali and you can plan your route. There are no trains, but the most common way to get around is via road and public buses. The average native Balinese cannot afford a car or a moped, so you will see many of the locals getting around on buses.

The most common type of buses are “bemos” which are mini-buses that will travel popular routes on the main roads in Bali. Riding one of these buses is a great cultural experience – you will be crammed in with many people as well as produce and livestock and you will experience the hot, crowded, colourful and chaotic experience of transport in Bali. Sure you could spend a fortune and charter a luxurious private taxi or a limousine, but taking the local bus makes a better story.

How to Get Internet Access in Bali

While you are travelling around Bali you will want to have access to the internet, as you will probably need to book a flight, send an email, look up some information on an attraction or phone your family on Skype. It is possible to get internet access in Bali, although it is not always free.

Usually there will be many internet cafes in most of the tourist areas, where you can pay a small fee to access the internet for an appointed amount of time. Most coffee shops also offer free Wifi if you buy a coffee. You will even find that most of the convenience stores will offer free Wifi on their premises – so you can buy a snack and then ask for the Wifi password so that you can quickly check your email.

It is also possible to rent a wireless modem or a portable internet dongle, which will allow you to have a great signal over most areas in Bali. This is usually cheaper than paying for internet access in the hotel, as many hotels will charge a fee.

These are just a few Bali travel tips to keep in mind that will make your travels around Bali easier.
