The A66 in Cumbria is closed in both directions between the M6 at J40 near Penrith and the A685 at Brough due to a collision.
Cumbria Police currently lead the response to a serious multiple vehicle collision on the A66 which occurred at approximately 12:20pm. The road has been closed to allow the emergency services to work at scene. National Highways have resources en route to assist with traffic management. The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the afternoon.
Diversion route
Diversions are suitable for all lights vehicles. Heavy vehicles (HGVs) are being diverted via the A69.
Eastbound traffic are advised to follow the solid square symbol on local road signs
- From A6/A66 roundabout take A66 westbound to M6 J40.
- From M6 J40 take M6 southbound to J38.
- Exit M6 at J38 and take A685 northeast through Kirkby Stephen
- Rejoin A66 at Brough bypass.
Westbound traffic are advised to follow the solid triangle symbol on local road signs
- Exit the A66 at the A685 Brough junction.
- Join the A685 southwards to Kirkby Stephen and westwards to Tebay.
- Join M6 at J38 (Tebay) and proceed North to rejoin A66 at J40 (Skirsgill).
