The Legacy of Neil Simon: A Conversation with Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker

Join us for a conversation about playwright Neil Simon's legacy with Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, moderated by "Plaza Suite" director John Benjamin Hickey. Elaine Joyce, actor and Simon's widow, will deliver brief remarks.
Using state-of-the-art, non-invasive examination techniques, Preservation Research and Testing Division staff are collaborating with other library staff to learn more from the material/physical aspects of the Library's collections.
Join us for a brief history of the development of the daguerreotype, an introduction to the work of Robert Cornelius, and explain how her research project on this subject has led to a recent acquisition and generated the current focused effort to preserve the daguerreotypes at the Library.
The Preservation Services Division performs a wide variety of reformatting including brittle books, foreign newspaper digitization, as well as tangible media capture and forensics. This presentation will include a brief discussion of each reformatting, plus a sample of online collections.
This presentation will provide a top level overview of the issues to keep in mind if a library decides to move a portion of their collections to an offsite facility. Key topics include selection of materials for transfer, identification of the offsite facility, shelving schemas, transportation of materials, retrievals and governance policies.
Jacob Nadal will describe how the Library of Congress Preservation Directorate plans for and maintains its preservation programs. These include a series of reorganizations, completed in 2017 and 2021, and an ongoing series of cost studies.
Gayle Murchison comes to the Library to share her research on the legendary American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Mary Lou Williams. Murchison is the author of The American Stravinsky: The Style and Aesthetic of Copland's New American Music, the Early Works, 1921-1938 and is editor of Black Music Research Journal.
To celebrate the conclusion of her laureateship, U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo (an enrolled member of the Mvskoke Nation) reads and discusses her favorite "ancestor poems." The evening features a performance by singer-songwriter Jennifer Kreisberg (Tuscarora, North Carolina) and a reading by poet Portlyn Houghton-Harjo (Mvskoke, Seminole), concluding with Harjo's performance of her poem "Remember."
Buenos Aires-born, Grammy-winning pianist, composer, and arranger Pablo Ziegler comes to the Library with his Jazz Tango Trio. Known for his piano performance with maestro Astor Piazzolla's Quintet for over a decade, Ziegler is considered one of the most representative leaders of Argentine Nuevo Tango.
Join us for a panel in moderated discussion will explore moments of constitutional change in the United States, especially in more recent years, looking at constitutional amendments, as well as social movements that lead to legislation, shifts in U.S. Supreme Court jurisprudence, and other indicators of significant legal change.
