Jackson will be the first Black woman and former public defender to serve on the nation's highest court. Her appointment means white men will not be a majority of justices for the first time. Hours later, Russia launched a rocket attack on a Ukraine train station that served as a civilian evacuation point, killing dozens and wounding more than 100. [AP] LAWMAKERS TEST POSITIVE Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) were the latest lawmakers to announce a positive COVID result. Both senators were present for Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation vote. ALABAMA ADVANCES 'NO GAY' BILL Alabama may become the latest red state to target trans youth after lawmakers voted to outlaw gender-affirming medications for transgender kids and advanced a "Don't Say Gay" bill banning early classroom instruction on sexual and gender identity. Republican Gov. Kay Ivey has not indicated whether she will sign it into law. Gretchen Whitmer filed a lawsuit aimed at protecting abortion rights in her state. She's seeking to overturn a 1931 abortion ban still on the books in Michigan, but inactive under the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. [HuffPost] NO CHARGES AGAINST POLICE FOR LATINO FATHER'S DEATH Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley announced she will bring no charges against officers who killed Mario Gonzalez by kneeling on his back for nearly four minutes in April 2021. ATTORNEY GENERAL ASKS COURT TO HOLD TRUMP IN CONTEMPT New York Attorney General Letitia James asked a court to hold Trump in contempt and fine him $10,000 per day for failing to meet a March 31 court-imposed deadline to submit documents related to her ongoing civil investigation into his business practices.
