Building Better Chesapeake Bay Programs through Diversity and Inclusion We are creating diverse and inclusive programs in the Chesapeake Bay that more fully represent and support the communities that we serve. New Video: Powderhorn Lake Habitat Restoration Through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, NOAA is partnering with the Great Lakes Commission and Audubon Great Lakes to support an effort to restore habitat for fish in northeast Illinois. The Powderhorn Lake Restoration Project will restore wetlands and improve fish passage at the Powderhorn Lake Forest Preserve. Check out this new video! Contact: Cassie Lovall. Louisiana Draft Plan to Restore Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats Open for Public Comment The Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group is proposing several restoration projects to restore wetlands, coastal, and nearshore habitats to address injuries caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Those projects are included in a draft restoration plan now open for public comment for 30 days through April 18, 2022. Contact: Mel Landry. Settlement Finalized to Restore Natural Resources from an Oil Spill in Offshore Louisiana this placeholder text. On March 18, 2022 a settlement was finalized in Federal District Court to resolve claims related to the Taylor Energy Platform oil spill at Mississippi Canyon 20 ("MC-20"). $16.5M of this settlement is to partially restore natural resources injured by the spill. Seafloor Mapping and Coral Reef Assessment in the Mariana Archipelago Scientists and managers depend on research surveys to monitor coral reef ecosystems across the Mariana Archipelago. Multiple threats including climate change, disease, and land-based sources of pollution impact coral reefs around the globe, including the Marianas. During expeditions this spring and summer, scientific divers from NOAA will estimate the number of reef fish and measure corals around the islands. NOAA Blue Carbon Enterprises Lessen Climate Change Damage Coastal wetlands research, restoration, tools, data, workshops, and partners—NOAA brings every blue carbon asset to the fight against climate-change-related hazards and harm .In the race to lessen the damage of climate change, this "blue carbon" held in the nation's coastal ecosystems is a powerful ally.
