In the newly proposed regulations... "There is a further clause (15 B) that requires any traveller exiting South Africa to have in their possession a valid vaccination certificate or negative PCR test not more than 72 hours before departure, regardless of the requirements of their destination country."So not only do we now suggest that travellers require a negative PCR test to enter South Africa, we are now imposing a restriction that requires them to have one to exit South Africa, unless they are fully vaccinated, even if their destination country does not require it."

So I got a 50% Avios bonus email today from BA. I wouldn't normally buy but with an upcoming trip to Oz, they represent good value especially Qantas internal business class( and YQ hasn't increased yet!)
I take the click through from the mail to sign in, do so, then get the sign in page again, and again, and again , and again, ad infinitum.
So try another route. Sign into BA.com and go from there. Same story I'm afraid.
How difficult can it be? Don't they test these things? I'm trying to give them money and they won't let me!
Just another in the list of IT fails I suppose...small but annoying!

I need to be in Miami towards the end of April and I have two Marriott free night certificates (the one's that cover up to 35k points) that will be expiring right after that, so I figure I may as well use them for this stay. The (eligible) choices are pretty underwhelming, so I wanted to see if anyone has recommendations.

The event I'm going down there for is short, so I'd like to be on the beach (not across the street) and ideally in South Beach as that will be the most convenient.

Joel Dahmen

PGA TOUR Players Ryan Moore, Joel Dahmen, Chris Kirk and LPGA Tour Legend Christina Kim Headline TRUE's 2022 Lineup

(TACOMA, Wash.) – TRUE linkswear (TRUE), creators of golf's most naturally comfortable footwear, today announces its lineup of professional brand ambassadors for 2022, including PGA TOUR players Ryan Moore, Joel Dahmen, Chris Kirk, Mark Hubbard and Dylan Wu; DP World Tour player Oliver Wilson; Korn Ferry TOUR player George Cunningham; and LPGA Tour legend Christina Kim.

Each of TRUE's ambassadors embodies its mantra, "live true and be yourself." From the freewheeling Dahmen and Kim's larger-than-life personality to TOUR rookie Wu and four-time winner Kirk, they all came to TRUE because of its unrelenting commitment to comfort on and off the course and its unequivocal use of recycled and renewable materials in all its shoes.

"We don't throw big paychecks at mindless athletes to simply wear our product or logo," says TRUE President Jason Moore. "We've teamed up with genuine humans who also happen to be world-class athletes who not only love our product but also embody our brand and care about the future of our sport. We're excited and proud to partner with these remarkable TRUE Ambassadors to propel the company ahead in 2022 and beyond."

Ryan Moore

Jason Moore's brother and TRUE co-founder Ryan Moore continues his now decade-long tenure as the company's "Resident Ambassador." One of the most decorated amateur golfers in the game's history, Ryan Moore is also a five-time winner on TOUR, a former Ryder Cup team member and ranks 35th on the all-time money list. The father of three is still deeply involved with the design and engineering of every TRUE model, testing each pair to ensure they hold up to the rigors of the PGA TOUR.

"I'm honored to be a part of this incredible group of TRUE Ambassadors and to continue growing our family of supporters and customers around the globe," says Ryan Moore. "I find it moving that each of them has their own TRUE story about discovering and engaging with the brand. Many of them found us on their own many years ago during their search for a better footwear solution for their professional and personal lives."

A Pacific Northwest native and standout golfer at the University of Washington, Dahmen signed an exclusive deal with TRUE in 2020 not long after beating cancer and vowing to "do good in the world." Suffering from chronic foot pain, Kirk discovered TRUE in 2012 and has been wearing his TRUE LUX Pros and Original 1.2s ever since. Kim tried TRUEs for the first time last year when the LPGA Tour banned metal spikes and now rotates between the LUX Knit, LUX Pro and Ripstop.

Christina Kim

"I feel like I have a greater connection with the ground, better traction, and a truly athletic movement with my feet than I ever did with metal spikes, resulting in more confidence when I step over a ball," says Kim. "Plus, my feet are so much happier! They can breathe, they can stretch out and they are not tired after a round of golf any longer."

Andy Curry, head of investigations at the Information Commissioner's Office, on what's driving the high volume of unsolicited sales calls and the action you can take

Unwanted sales calls, whether they're made by a human or a robot, have become part of daily life. But why do we get so many? And what can we do about it? I asked Andy Curry, head of investigations at the Information Commissioner's Office, which enforces good practice in handling personal data such as telephone numbers.

I always had a bit of an issue with talking on the phone, because #millennial, but with nuisance calls being so prevalent, I don't answer at all now. Am I right in thinking the number has shot up?
A few years ago they were massively high but during the pandemic they hit the floor. Even the scammers were self-isolating. Now, we're seeing a return to normality.

Jesse Plemons, Jason Segel and Lily Collins are wasted in a ho-hum Covid-shot crime drama that struggles to distinguish itself

What is Jason Segel up to? It's a question one is intended to pose during the opening of contained Netflix crime thriller Windfall, the actor poking his way through an extravagant Ojai house, pissing in the shower and rubbing his fingerprints off from door handles. But it's also a question that many of us have been asking for the last almost decade of film, the actor fading from the comedy A-list and far, far into the background. It was weirdly Sex Tape – a film that also counts as Cameron Diaz's last screen credit – that saw him pick up sticks and head to smaller fare (what on earth happened on the set of Sex Tape?) and even then, his choices have been sparse and minor (the few unlucky people who endured his teeth-achingly twee Charlie Kaufman-lite show Dispatches from Elsewhere will have also asked, with a more fatigued tenor, what is Jason Segel up to?).

We at least now know what he was up to during the pandemic, briefly at least, reuniting with director Charlie McDowell (son of Malcolm and his then-wife Mary Steenburgen), who'd previously cast him in 2017's little-loved sci-fi indie The Discovery. Segel co-crafted the story for McDowell's latest, a frustratingly inert little trifle, bizarrely purchased by Netflix for a rumoured eight-figure total, intended audience more of a mystery than the story itself.

The legendary actor is joined by Thandiwe Newton, Henry Winkler and more in Netflix's puerile animated comedy about monsters, who are hormones incarnate

Netflix's Big Mouth set out to perform a very specific task. An animated comedy featuring teenagers who are visited by hormone monsters, it planted its flag as a frank exploration of puberty as it objectively is; an awkward, horny, non-stop body horror nightmare.

However, over the course of its five seasons, Big Mouth took its eye off the ball just a little. As the episodes wore on, you sensed that the creators were starting to lose interest in their human teenage characters, while growing more and more enamoured with the flamboyantly crude monsters that came to represent all their various adolescent desires and urges. This was reflected in the acclaim it received; for the past two years, Maya Rudolph has won Emmys for her portrayal of Connie the Hormone Monstress, a sort of horned griffin who – among other things – exists to teach teenagers how to masturbate.

We were booked DCA-ATL-LIR tomorrow at 8:15am, confirmed in comfort+ both legs. An hour ago, we received texts and emails saying that our DCA-ATL flight had been moved to noon and we would be rebooked.
We were auto rebooked onto 6am departure, seats in main cabin not next to each other. But now I check and the original flight remains on time, with seats for sale...except our seats have been grabbed by others. So if we switch back, it's the same separate seats in main cabin option.
Seems like some IT snafu? Or perhaps there was an equipment change that led them to boot us (a DM and a PM)? Any thoughts?

From today's NumLock News

We Deserved Treats

Last year saw the sale of $36.9 billion worth of candy in the United States, according to the National Confectioners Association, with 98.4 percent of households buying candy. Every kind of candy saw an increase in sales, with chocolate growing 9.2 percent, non-chocolate candy rising 14.5 percent, and seasonal candy — chocolate bunnies, coins, Santas and turkeys — were up 13.5 percent year over year. Halloween was the biggest driver for seasonal candy last year, with Halloween chocolate up 50 percent year over year and non-chocolate up 25.8 percent, fueled in no small part thanks to the vastly larger Halloween compared to 2020's meagre observation.

FW: London and Edinburgh itinerary critique, please

Subject: London and Edinburgh itinerary critique, please

Hello all! My husband, teenage son and I have planned a trip to London and Edinburgh for this summer. The two of them are big tennis fans and have tickets for Wimbledon, and they also love WWII history; I'm a British history buff in general but especially the medieval and Anglo-Saxon eras. I enjoy British literature as well. Bearing those special interests in mind, my itinerary draft is below and I would love any feedback.

I've been to London once before, about 20 years ago; this will be my husband's and son's first time. None of us has visited Scotland at all. I don't usually like to cram in too many big sights per day, but if some days feel too light, I am open to suggestion. Other than Friday 7/1, which is firm, we can switch any of the days around.

Thanks so much!

Saturday 6/25
- Arrive LHR early a.m.
- Check in at accommodations in Belgravia (we always reserve the previous night so we can check in right away when we get there)
- Usually we like to keep arrival day loose so we can crash whenever the jet lag takes hold. We might take a walk along the South Bank of the Thames to get our bearings and some fresh air (roughly Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge, maybe with a stop at Borough Market).

Sunday 6/26
- Boat or tube to Greenwich
- Royal Observatory
- National Maritime Museum
- Greenwich Market and shopping (I have been to both the observatory and the maritime museum before, so will likely leave those to the guys)

Monday 6/27
- British Museum (I allowed a full day for this as it is one of the main highlights for me and I missed it on my first trip to London - the guys will probably hit saturation point before I will, and they'll just play the afternoon by ear.)

Tuesday 6/28
- Westminster Abbey
- Choral evensong at Westminster Abbey

Wednesday 6/29
- Husband & son: Churchill War Rooms
- Me: British Library
- St. James' Park & Hyde Park

Thursday 6/30
- Tower of London (tickets booked)
- All-Hallows-by-the-Tower
- St. Dunstan in the East

Friday 7/1
- Husband & son: Wimbledon (tickets booked)
- Me: Sussex day trip with private guide - Battle Abbey, Bodiam Castle, Rye and more (booked)

Saturday 7/2
- Open day - thinking this might be a good day to take a break from sightseeing and do some wandering, relaxing, shopping, etc. I would like to browse the Portobello Road antiques market, and my son, who is a huge classic rock fan, wants to check out the record shops in Soho. I don't know much about London shopping, so please feel free to make recommendations.

Sunday 7/3
- Cambridge day trip
- Punting tour (do we need to book this in advance?)

Monday 7/4
- Husband & son: Bletchley Park day trip
- Me: National Gallery & Courtauld Gallery

Tuesday 7/5
- Train London > Edinburgh
- Check in at accommodations near Old Town
- Late afternoon/evening open

Wednesday 7/6
- Edinburgh Castle
- St. Giles' Cathedral

Thursday 7/7
- Dunnottar Castle day trip via train (I like ruins, so this looks more appealing to me than Stirling or one of the other major castles)

Friday 7/8
- National Museum of Scotland

Saturday 7/9
- Train Edinburgh > London
- Overnight at LHR hotel

Sunday 7/10
- Depart LHR

(Three Lobed Recordings)
Largely unheard, mostly instrumental rarities from the alt-rock band's final decade offer flashes of their chemistry

Sonic Youth's 2011 split after the acrimonious divorce of key members Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore means a reunion is unlikely. Many will be grateful, then, for these remaining scraps from the alt-rock lynchpins' table.

Consisting of five largely unheard, mostly instrumental rarities from the band's last 10 years, In/Out/In isn't a "new" album by any means so much as tracks that remained underdeveloped or unfinished at the time. Two – In & Out and Out & In, recorded a decade apart – have been released physically before. The former, recorded in a soundcheck, is a Neu!-like groove with Gordon contributing gently hypnotic vocal mantras. The 12-minute latter starts as a driving groove with walls of guitars and suddenly shifts gear into an infectious hook. The shorter, punchier Machine hails from 2008 but harks back to their late 1980s/early 90s vintage, presumably losing out to stronger ideas for the final album, The Eternal. Social Static, a challenging soundtrack to Chris Habib and Spencer Tunick's Super-8 film of the same title, finds them at their most dissonant, sculpting with distortion.

Sparks fly between rancher brothers in this audiobook version of the 1967 novel, read by Chad Michael Collins

A powerful and quietly subversive study of masculinity set in rural Montana, Thomas Savage's 1967 novel is enjoying a moment in the spotlight thanks to Jane Campion's film adaptation, which has been nominated for 12 Oscars. The book opens with a vivid description of a rancher castrating a young bull and tossing its testicles on the fire next to the branding irons, the symbolism of which is hard to miss.

Actor Chad Michael Collins is the narrator, giving distinctive voice to the sibling protagonists: the domineering and loudly homophobic Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch in the film) and his quieter, meeker brother, George. The pair, who are "more than partners, more than brothers", oversee the running of a vast cattle farm inherited from their retired parents, and still sleep in the bedroom they shared as children.

Subject: No drugs, booze, sex or swearing: will Heartstopper rewrite the young love rulebook?

Milkshakes, movie nights, incessant Instagramming and then early to bed … Heartstopper shows lovelorn teens as never before. Its creator Alice Oseman on turning her hit web comic into a joyful queer love story for TV

Heartstopper is the anti-Euphoria. The upcoming Netflix teen drama – about a budding romance between two school friends – is as wholesome and uplifting as the headline-grabbing US high-school sensation is bleak and ridiculously debauched. Heartstopper's 15-year-olds don't take drugs, drink alcohol, have sex, swear or even argue with their parents. Instead, they go out for milkshakes, perform dutifully in school music concerts and have chaste movie nights. They are sweet, chronically polite and partial to an early night – a world away from the contemporary teen TV stereotype.

But Heartstopper is also quietly radical. The show, which is set in the UK, is a gay love story aimed at young viewers. Sensitive, incessantly apologetic swot Charlie meets charming rugby star Nick in class, and the spark between them slowly blossoms into love. It's a flirtation punctuated by much classically British romcom awkwardness, reams of Instagram messages and plenty of panicked Googling.

The Tennessee teen punks blazed a trail in the mid-2000s, but split under the pressures of the misogynistic media and music business. Fourteen years on, they're back to play for a new generation of fans

Recently, Be Your Own Pet singer Jemina Pearl was going through her parents' archive of articles about the Nashville punk band, who blazed briefly in the mid-2000s. "One of the reviews of our first album said, 'The slutty Jemina Pearl …'" she says with a grim laugh. "It's crazy looking back on some of the really sexist, awful things – every review talking about the way I look, as if that matters at all."

Worse still, Pearl was only 18 at the time – the only girl in a band of four Tennessee teens whose wolfishly catchy garage rock about bikes, adventures and fuuuuun set them apart from the era's preening indie acts. Their wild gigs were heavy on puking and punching. More than once, Pearl and her bandmates had to fight off stage invaders trying to grab her. She tried to emulate Iggy Pop. But where he leered, "I wanna be your dog," she snarled "You've got me on a leash / A damn damn leash," and hungered to get free from the constraints of school, controlling boys and gender norms.
