A quick trick to help you find your accommodation in a few clicks without breaking the bank. You’re welcome.
If you travel, chances are you’ve used Booking to book your accommodation. It’s easy to use (most of the time) and there are enough options to choose from. It’s not just hotels, for a while now they include Airbnb-style apartments and sometimes their prices are more competitive than Airbnb’s, but that’s another story. Back to our topic: how to navigate Booking quickly and effectively.
Here is my tip
Generally, when you search for a destination, say Lisbon, Booking will give you a list of options that are ranked as their top picks. You have filtering options so you could choose to rank by stars, top reviewed, or distance from the city center. However, oftentimes you have so many options i.e Lisbon with 4.2k results that even with the filter, it can be complicated to find real gems.
The first thing to do is to set your budget and here you have different price points ranging from €0–50 to €200+.
The second and most important is to filter the option by Review score: Superb 9+.
The results should help you to:
- Reduce the number of options hence find your pick more easily
- Filter out the noise like badly rated and/or overpriced options
- Only get highly rated options, even if your budget is low(er)
- Discover offers that would otherwise get lost because Booking seems to favor some accommodations regardless of their score review
- Never get disappointed by your choice
I have put a lot of emphasis on the score rating but of course this is relative to the number of reviews an accommodation has. So a 9.8 with 5 reviews is not the same as a 9 with 500 :).
