Heidelberg: Germany's most romantic city

At the end of the Second World War, almost all the cities of Germany were destroyed, leaving no stone unturned, but Heidelberg was never touched.

According to some, it was not bombed as a result of America's desire to use this place as a military base, and according to others, as a result of a gesture made by Germany in response to not touching the cities of Cambridge and Oxford while bombing England.

We're talking about such a beautiful city that I think it's very possible that they didn't die.

The most romantic city

Heidelberg, which has preserved its originality as it survived the war, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, home to Germany's oldest university, museums, palaces and many historical buildings. It is known as “Wege der Romantik” , that is, the most romantic city in Germany.

This city, which has the beauty of a painting; It is a very organized and must-see place where beautiful people live, people of all ages can go comfortably in all four seasons, the majority of its population is students, the prices are affordable.

Its history dates back to antiquity

Heidelberg is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany, in the valley between the Rhine and Neckar Rivers.

The history of the city dates back to the Ancient Roman Period. For this reason, you can come across many artifacts from the Roman Period while walking around. Don't be surprised.

In terms of location, it is close to the cities of Mannheim (20 km), Karlsruhe (54 km), Frankfurt (80 km), Stuttgart (120 km), Cologne (250 km), Munich (340 km) and it is very easy to reach from here.

Students make up 40 thousand of its population of 150 thousand people.

Although Heidelberg seems like a classic German city that hosts an average of 12 million tourists every year, where the 17.27 bus arrives at 17.27 and all the rules are strictly followed, it also has the characteristics of an Aegean or Mediterranean town with its touristic nature and hosting friendly people.

It is also a city of students, as it is home to the University of Heidelberg, Germany's oldest university. Unlike other German cities, it is always lively. I would especially recommend it to young people doing research for education.

Famous for its printing and printing machines, Heidelberg has the best productions of these machines in the world. Today, approximately 400 thousand Heidelberg printing and printing machines are used in a total of 240 thousand printing houses.

He also has a song called “Ich Habe Mein Herz In Heidelberg Verloren” (My heart stayed in Heidelberg). I recommend you listen.

Europe's most beautiful Christmas markets are here

Heidelberg has a temperate climate. It's neither too hot nor too cold. Therefore, it can be visited in all seasons.

In November-December, Europe's most beautiful Christmas markets (Christmas markets) are set up here. Must see.

Where to stay in Heidelberg?

Housing is a serious issue in Heidelberg. Since the number of hotels is very small compared to the number of tourists, they cannot meet the demand. Therefore, the number of excursionists is high. You must make a reservation in advance. Otherwise, you may not be able to find a place or you may end up costing your accommodation.

Since you will usually hang out in the old city, that is, in the area known as "alt stadt" or "old town" , it is useful to arrange the accommodation in this area. In this way, you will both save time and reduce the costs of roaming in the city.

Those with a lower budget may prefer hostels. In terms of price, it is almost half cheaper than hotels.

As a location, I suggest you take Hauptstrasse (Haupt Street) as a reference and search for a place to stay in the 2-3 km area around it.

What to buy in Heidelberg?

Heidelberg is a small place. During my time here, I had plenty of time to research what to buy and what not to buy. It would not be a lie if I say that I have passed by almost all the shops many times.

I think you can get more food and drink from Heidelberg. For example, you can buy chocolates from the chocolate shops on every corner. It makes an original and beautiful gift for yourself and your loved ones. Apart from these, cheese varieties, desserts, alcoholic beverages, especially wine and whiskey, can be bought.

Since Heidelberg is a university city, there may be books that you haven't been able to find before or that catch your eye while visiting here. I say don't miss it.

As for clothing, I don't think it's worth buying anything. You can find better and cheaper of all of them in our country. The only thing that caught my attention were the different styles of hats, scarves, berets and gloves.

Traditional German cuisine is here

Heidelberg is a place where you can taste all the flavors of traditional German cuisine.

Be sure to try the world-famous Frankfurter Würstchen hot dog (preferably pork and veal), schnitzel, meatballs made from liver (leberknödel), German cake, various ice creams, waffles, pancakes and cakes.

For drinks, I recommend cider (apwel vine) and other wines. I didn't like cider, but many people love it. It is in high demand. Do not forget to go to the world-famous Hard Rock Cafe.

Wishing you a pleasant time…
