Is it better to go with a tour company or local guide to support the local community/economy?

I'm going to Puerto Rico to do some rock climbing and looking to hire a private guide.

There's a popular tour company that seems to employ local guides and relies on local infrastructure, but I also found an independent, local guy who is running his own business.

They both have the same pricing, so I'm wondering which is better to support and empower the local community? I'm asking in general when touring and not necessarily climbing-specific.
