Things to see and do in Limassol
Limassol has plenty to offer in the way of things to see and do, so check out our guide of what to do when your there. Holidays in Cyprus will provide you with a wide range of things to see and do. As Limassol is the second largest city in the country, there are so many attractions that you may struggle to fit everything in over the course of a single break! And if you enjoy spending time on a holiday visiting historic attractions, you will certainly not find these to be in short supply in Limassol.
Why not visit the city’s medieval fort? Situated near the old port, the 14th-century structure is believed to be built on the site of an earlier Byzantine castle where England’s King Richard I – also known as Richard the Lionheart – is thought to have married Berengaria Navarre in 1191.
Today the fort is home to the Cyprus Medieval Museum and a visit here can allow you to see a range of weapons and armour that are hundreds of years old.
Just outside of Limassol is Kolossi Castle. While this structure was first built in 1210, the building you see today has only been in place since the mid-15th century.
Over the years it has been occupied by a number of organizations, including the Knights Templar and Knights of St John.
The castle is also reported to be where Richard the Lionheart and the newly crowned Queen Berengaria spent their honeymoon.

For an insight into the island’s more recent history, visit the Folk Art Museum. Established in 1985, here you can see a range of items from the 19th and early 20th centuries which depict Cypriot culture.
Some 500 pieces across six rooms are on show and with the artefacts on display ranging from tapestries and clothing to chests and tools, a trip here could make for a captivating afternoon out. Set in a beautifully preserved historic house, the museum won the prestigious Europa Nostra award in 1989.
To get back to nature, head to the city’s public gardens. Situated on the coastal road, you can see a wide variety of flora and fauna here, including pine and eucalyptus trees.
Inside you will also find a small zoo, home to creatures ranging from deer and monkeys to pelicans and ostriches.
The Limassol District Archaeological Museum should also not be missed during a holiday in Cyprus. With items ranging from as far back as 10000 BC to the Roman era, plenty of historic artefacts are on display.
These include cyproclassical snake-shaped hair rings that were found in an excavated tomb in the city and a statue of the ancient Egyptian god Bes.
For a slightly more active break, head to the Fasouri Watermania park. Here you can have fun splashing around in the wave pool and going on adrenalin-pumping slides and chutes. The park is open from April to October, making it the perfect place to head to for a summer holiday.
A range of ticket packages are available, so pick the one most suitable for you and your party’s needs. Whichever one you select however, you’ll find that all children under the age of three do not have to pay.
